Válku proti Římu se nezískává koukem na mapu. Cohort ti to tvrdě vštípí do hlavy hned v prvních deseti minutách. Jde o starší střateagii z počátku devadesátek, kde vodiš oddíl vojáků — kohort — proti římským legiím a musíš přemýšlet, nebo padneš.

Hra ti nabízí taktickou bitvu na čtvercovém poli. Jde o to řídit si jednotky, správně je pozicionovat a pokud je to jen trochu možné, využít terén. Každá jednotka má své vlastnosti, omezený počet tahů a ty máš jednu šanci se rozhodnout, jestli zaútočíš, nebo se stáhneš. Není tu času na klikání — to je vojenství bez fráží.

Ovládání je jednoduché, grafika minimalistická, ale čitelná. Víš, kde stojí tvoji vojáci a kde druh. Pohyb jednotek v tahu-tahů je předvídatelný, a proto je strategie skutečná — plánuješ, ne improvisáš. Pokud se ti daří táhnout správně, máš pocit, že jsi vojevůdce. Pokud ne, vejdeš si na chybu v rychlosti. Hra nemaže hranice mezi štěstím a dovedností tou nejlepší cestou — bez soucitu.
