About Grand Prix 2

Grand Prix 2, released by MicroProse in 1995, is Geoff Crammond's landmark Formula One simulation and the sequel to his hugely influential Formula One Grand Prix. Modeled on the 1994 F1 season (unlicensed but easily recognizable), it set a new benchmark for realism on the PC, pairing a genuinely demanding physics model with SVGA graphics that looked spectacular for the era, provided you had the hardware to run them smoothly.

What made it special was its uncompromising commitment to simulation. The cars demanded real respect for braking points, weight transfer and grip, the AI drivers behaved with an unusual intelligence for the time, and the game offered deep setup options, full-length race weekends with practice and qualifying, and a famously punishing wet-weather model. Crammond built it around detailed, accurate circuits, and mastering a single lap of them was a serious undertaking rather than a casual afternoon.

It earned a devoted following that kept editing and modding it for years, and for a long stretch it was the yardstick against which every other F1 game was measured. Approached today it is unmistakably a product of the mid-nineties in its interface and presentation, but the driving model has aged with real dignity, and it stands as one of the most important racing simulations ever made for the PC.
