The moment you load Strip Game on your Spectrum, you realize the name isn't a gimmick—it's literal. This isn't some titillating adventure; it's a stripped-down card game where the only thing getting removed is your dignity, one lost hand at a time.

The premise couldn't be simpler: you and the computer draw cards, highest wins. Lose, and an ASCII figure on screen gradually sheds pixels of clothing. Win, and they do the same, which is the only mercy the game offers. It's higher-card-wins poker without the poker, without the strategy, without anything except probability and the slow creep of inevitability. By 1988 standards on the Spectrum, this passed for adult humor—the electronic equivalent of a joke your uncle told at Christmas dinner.

There's no real gameplay here, just randomness dressed up as entertainment. Each round takes seconds. You press a key, the computer draws, someone wins. The graphics are blocky stick figures that wouldn't offend anyone because they barely qualify as figures at all. The sound is the Spectrum's typical beep-boop affair, utterly forgettable. What keeps Strip Game from being completely forgotten is that it captured something genuinely weird about early computer gaming—the gap between what technology could show and what developers thought was clever. It's not good. It's barely functional. But it exists as a strange artifact, a reminder that someone in the mid-eighties thought "what if we made a game where you lose a card game and watch a stick figure undress?" and then actually built it.

Today, there's no reason to play this unless you're archaeologically interested in how gaming humor aged. The novelty wore off by 1990. The game itself offers zero engagement—no strategy, no skill, just window dressing on a random number generator. If you want nostalgia, fine, dig it up in an emulator. If you want an actual game, find literally anything else from that era. Strip Game spent all its energy on the concept and forgot to include the game part.
