About the game

King's Bounty, released in 1990 by New World Computing, is a landmark strategy game that laid the foundations for one of the most influential series in the genre. Designed largely by Jon Van Caneghem, it casts you as a hero riding across a fantasy map on a quest to recover the stolen Sceptre of Order, hunting down villains and reclaiming the land for the king before time runs out.

The gameplay loop blends exploration, army-building and tactical combat in a way that felt fresh at the time. You recruit creatures into your army from dwellings scattered across the continents, gather clues and treasure, and fight turn-based battles on a grid where positioning and unit type matter enormously. Managing your leadership rating, gold and weekly upkeep while deciding which foes to take on gives it a satisfying strategic rhythm, and the four playable classes change how you approach the challenge.
