Lembitu

Lembitu is a turn-based Civilization-like strategy game, entirely in Estonian, built around the Ancient Estonian Struggle for Freedom of 1208-1227. It takes its name from Lembitu, the elder of Sakala and one of the central figures of the resistance against the crusaders.

It appeared in 1992, shortly after Estonia regained independence, and both its subject and its language say a great deal: a domestic author telling domestic history, with no concern for the fact that almost nobody outside Estonia would be able to read a word of it. The game is credited to Aldo Mett.

Its copy protection deserves a mention too. Instead of asking you to look up a word in the manual, it posed questions about Estonian medieval history and refused to start without the right answer. On OldGame.cz Lembitu runs directly in your browser.
