About Virtual Pinball

Virtual Pinball is a 1993 pinball game for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, published by Electronic Arts and designed by Bill Budge — the programmer best known for the classic Pinball Construction Set. True to his pedigree, this was as much a construction toy as a pinball simulator, letting players not just play tables but tinker with and build their own.

That creative angle set it apart from the straightforward pinball games of the era: you could shape the layout and rules of a table and then flip away on your own design, saved to the cartridge's battery memory. The physics were modest by later standards, but the do-it-yourself spirit made it a novel entry on the console, and it remains an interesting curio for fans of pinball and of Budge's design legacy.
