About the game

Rescate Atlantida dates from 1989, the tail end of what Spain still calls the golden age of its home software industry. In the second half of the 1980s a scene grew up around studios in Madrid and Barcelona that could stock the shops with domestic production and export a good deal of it across Europe, and Dinamic was among its most visible names. The developer field here lists Dinamic together with Creepsoft and Summit, which was ordinary practice at the time — the brand, an outside team and a distributor often shared a single credit line.

The genre is adventure, meaning a game built on exploration, object handling and situational puzzles rather than reflexes. On the ZX Spectrum that came with hard limits: 48 or 128 KB of memory, tape loading and a display that stores colour in blocks. Spanish adventures worked around this in a characteristic way, pairing static illustrations with a text parser or a simple icon-driven interface, which saved space while still allowing a reasonably long storyline.

Detailed information about how this particular game unfolds is not part of our source data, so we do not invent it. What is certain is the year, the platform and the origin — and the origin alone tells you something. Spanish titles from the end of the decade tend to look striking and to be demanding enough that finishing one in an afternoon was never the plan.

Without some Spanish an adventure is hard going, so treat it either as a dictionary exercise or as a sample of late-1980s Spanish production.

On OldGame.cz the game runs directly in the browser. Expect the on-screen text to be in Spanish.
