Pets "Petoeläin" Rex is Finland's answer to the Tamagotchi craze of 1997. The original FILE_ID.DIZ proudly introduces it as "suomalainen DamaCochi" — a Finnish Tamagotchi — and asks whether you are already tired of your friend's or neighbour's pet, or perhaps green with envy. Instead of a cute chick, however, the creature in your care is a petoeläin, a beast of prey, named Rex.

It is a virtual pet for DOS: you look after your animal much as you would one of the Japanese keychain toys, just with a noticeably rougher sense of humour. The game comes from the Finnish home-computer scene of the 1990s, where jokes and parodies like this spread over BBSes and among friends, and remained almost unknown outside Finland.
