Magicland Dizzy is a platform adventure from Codemasters where you play as Dizzy — a round hero whose world consists of items to collect, obstacles to jump over, and puzzles to solve. This time your beloved Daisy has been turned into a frog, and your task is to fix this unfortunate situation. The setting matches the title: a magical land, fairy-tale backdrops, a touch of magic. Exactly what you'd expect from the series.

Graphically, the game shares DNA with other entries from the same period — Dizzy: Prince of the Yolkfolk came out practically at the same time and looks similar. Colorful, clear, solid for PC standards back then. The gameplay revolves around exploring screens, collecting items, and using them in the right places. Classic adventure logic, just without dialogue. Dizzy's movement is a bit clunky — he falls like a real egg, meaning uncontrollably — and this is what has aged the worst. Precise jumps over chasms combined with slippery physics caused frustration in 1993 and still do today.

I remember the Dizzy series mainly because it was different from the mainstream of that era. It wasn't Mario, it wasn't Doom. It was a British, somewhat fairy-tale approach to the genre that combined action platforming with item-based puzzles. Codemasters churned these games out quickly, and Magicland sits in the solid middle of the series — not among the peaks, but not among those flops you'd rather forget. The puzzles are bearable, the world is charming, and you can get through the whole thing in an afternoon.

Today it'll appeal mainly to those who knew Dizzy as kids and want to relive what it actually looked like back then. It plays decently in a browser — nothing here requires hours of dedication or a manual. For newcomers to the series, I'd recommend trying one of the more acclaimed entries first, but if the egg with gloves hooks you, Magicland is a fair continuation in familiar footsteps.
