The Ultimate Fighting of Finland vs. Sweden

The age-old rivalry between Finland and Sweden brought to the DOS screen: The Ultimate Fighting of Finland vs. Sweden from 1997 is a fast-paced real-time fighting game for two players at one keyboard. Each player picks a side — Finn or Swede — and then it is simply a matter of beating the opponent senseless. The period blurb immodestly promises "breathtaking" background music for Sound Blaster, SB Pro and Gravis UltraSound cards, plus a REPLAY function that plays back the end of the bout.

Tongue-in-cheek titles like this were produced by the dozen in 1990s Finland and spread over BBS boards; the eternal contest with the western neighbour was a favourite theme, whether it took the form of ice hockey or, as here, a fistfight. International retro catalogues barely know this scene at all. You can play the game right in your browser on OldGame.cz — best enjoyed as a pair.
