Sierra Christmas Card 1992

Sierra sent its customers a Christmas greeting in the form of an interactive floppy disk. It wasn't a nod to ethical standards, more of a gesture — a disk instead of paper, a game instead of a poem. The year 1992, a time when the studio could afford to send all its loyal fans something that felt genuinely personal because of that floppy disk.

This Christmas package tried to capture the atmosphere of holiday spirit on MS-DOS. It was an interactive greeting and a small collector's rarity — not a game in the classical sense, more of a multimedia postcard with animations and sounds. Sierra was experimenting with what could be done with a computer and a sound card in home. Today it sounds trivial, back then it was an interesting thing.

The content didn't develop into any complex game. It was more of a tour — Christmas scenes, a speech from some studio personalities, maybe animations or music. It wasn't gaming in the true sense of the word. Simply put: you open it, you watch it, you listen to it, then you're done with it. By today's standards it feels like a distributed video — nothing more, nothing less.

It meant something only because it came from Sierra. The studio had a reputation back then, built up through consistently clever adventures — King's Quest, Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry. The Christmas disk was a message: we remember our players. Nostalgia on physical media.

There's no reason to play it today. There's no game to win or lose, no plots or puzzles. It's a curiosity — interesting for collectors and connoisseurs of digital history, not for anyone looking to spend their time meaningfully. If you want to see how studios remembered the Christmas season in the floppy disk era, here's your chance. Otherwise those three minutes aren't worth it.
