About PORI III

PORI III is a text-mode role-playing game in Estonian, written in Turbo Pascal and running in the plain character display of DOS. It plays the way home-made Pascal games of the period usually did: you read descriptions, pick from a menu, gather experience and watch your character slowly grow. Pori is the Estonian word for mud.

It was written in 1998 by a schoolboy using the handle Creature and distributed from a school server in Tallinn. That was how most Estonian amateur software of the late 1990s reached its audience – a game for classmates, no publisher, no distribution, just a link on a school page.

Only part of the series survives in any archive, which makes PORI III one of very few Estonian bedroom-coder RPGs still available at all. On OldGame.cz it runs right in your browser.
