Mission2000x5

Mission2000x5 is a Finnish text adventure released in 2000 by a duo signing themselves N&J-Software. The period blurb is laconic: the game needs nothing more than a 386, and the authors warn it is “not for the humourless”. Comedy was clearly the main ingredient; they revealed nothing else, and the title obviously plays with the then-magical year 2000.

Amateur text adventures were an easy way into programming on the Finnish home-computer scene, and dozens of them appeared around the turn of the millennium, spreading freely over BBS boards while remaining completely invisible outside Finland.

Bear in mind that the game most likely speaks only Finnish, so without a dictionary it will be more of a curiosity – yet it is an authentic glimpse into a world that international retro archives overlook. The adventure runs right in your browser on OldGame.cz.
