About Cyber Police

When you open Cyber Police, the first thing you encounter is the feeling of drowning in menus. Black screen, white text, no graphics to greet you — and somehow it still pulls you forward. Something's happening here in 1996, when half of indie games don't even know what a menu is yet.

Cyber Police – screenshot 1

It's a text adventure set in a cyberpunk world. You're an agent for some security agency hunting criminals on the net. There's no 3D here, no animation — just words and your own brain. The goal is often simple: catch the head of some criminal network, explore locations, gather information, decide how to proceed. The atmosphere breathes nineties and sci-fi, but without caring about dazzling you visually.

You navigate by commands. You enter an action, the game returns text. You move between locations, talk to characters, search for clues. The controls are straightforward, almost boringly so — there's nothing dynamic here, no action jumping or brain-bending puzzles. It plays more like reading, where you occasionally make a decision. This is exactly what could be mesmerizing for some (room for imagination, slow pacing with authority), and deadly boring for others (nothing happens, just reading).

Cyber Police didn't make it into history as a pioneer of anything particularly special. It had formulas that other games of the era used too. It stayed somewhere in the same position as hundreds of other text adventures — too obscure, too mediocre to be mentioned, too decent to be completely forgotten. Today nobody looks for it specifically, and that's probably right — just a piece of history that no modern player will stumble upon naturally.

If you want to play it today, treat it in your browser more as an experience than entertainment. It's a light slice of the nineties, when someone thought cyberpunk and text adventures were a combination that would sell. It wasn't. But that's no reason not to play it — purely out of curiosity about what people tried in the tunnel of time.
