Final Sieni

Final Sieni — literally "Final Mushroom" — is a gloriously silly arcade game from 1999 by the Finnish group Fable Machine. The original BBS blurb promises "a gripping arcade blast" and tells the story of Juhani, a hardened mushroom picker who suffers an unfortunate accident. The player then lives through Juhani's strange hallucinations, catching mushrooms as they rain down from the sky.

It is a typical product of the Finnish home-computer scene of the 1990s: a small DOS game passed around on BBSes and floppies among friends, with a brand of humour no commercial studio would touch. The period requirements — a 486 at 66 MHz, VGA and a Sound Blaster — sound quaint today but were an ordinary setup at the time.
