About Legacy of the Necromancer - Part II - The Palace of the Necromancer

Two years after the first installment, the classic adventure formula returns: exploring a dark palace full of traps and sinister spells. Legacy of the Necromancer: Part II puts you face the same dilemma as its predecessor — you have a map, you have an inventory, but what to do with it remains the question.

Legacy of the Necromancer - Part II - The Palace of the Necromancer – screenshot 1

This is a point-and-click adventure from the late eighties, when PCs were just learning to tell stories. You're someone who needs to get into the Necromancer's palace, and you need to solve a bunch of slippery puzzles. This second part continues what the first one did — drag things around, combine objects, talk to strange characters who know a bit about your task. You expect logic. You'll find it here and there.

You play from a top-down perspective, the graphics are simple, but they carry a touch of gothic atmosphere — black walls, cracks with candles, rooms full of things that quietly wander about without sound. That's its strength: it doesn't make noise, it just gives you time to think. The controls are basic — you click, you wait, you read. There's no rush, no timers. There's patience or frustration, depending on how easily you figure out why a particular artifact needs to be in a particular room.

In the nineties, this was solid entertainment for gray winter afternoons — a game that doesn't demand you be sharp, just attentive. This second part didn't try very hard to improve on the first. The graphics are the same, the puzzle logic stayed just as mysterious and just as intuitive. That's not a flaw, it's simply consistency.

Today you'll play it mostly for nostalgia, when you want to remember what adventure games actually looked like before they had indicators and levels. It's not Monkey Island, but it's not a mistake either. It's silence, story, and plenty of waiting. Sometimes that's exactly what you need.
