Requiem for a Heavyweight — už samotný název něco slibuje. Není to o boxu, není to film, je to hra z roku 1989 pro DOS, kdy se do počítačů teprve začínaly tlačit příběhy s ambicí. Grafika zde ale служи jen jako kulisa, pravým motorem je text.

Jedná se o textovou adventuru, kde jsi svým způsobem režisérem dramatu. Hraje se to myší a klávesnicí — základ jako u textovek té doby, jen s lepší grafikou, která se občas snaží doprovodit tvůj příběh. Jsi v boksu, věci se komplikují, rozhodnutí padají, a ty když klikneš na slovo, scéna se změní. Mechanika je jednoduchá a přímočará, což v tomto případě není nedostatek — je to naopak prezentované s tím, že žánr není o akcích, ale o psaném slově.

Grafika je pracně kreslená, podtržená atmosférou, která připomíná temné ilustrace z komiksů. Postavy mají rysy, pohled, náladu — nejde o pixel art, jde o aspoň se pokoušející umění. Zvuk? Spíš background. Text je to, co dává hře duši, a zde to není přeložená béžnost, ale snaha o něco skutečného.

Co s tím časem? Dnes to zní archaicky a vláčně, to je fakt. Grafika už není wow efekt, interaktivita se zdá omezená. Jenže právě tady vidíš, jak se věci měnily — hra není chtěná být filmem, je chtěna být knížkou se snímky. To, co se později odsoudilo, mělo vlastní půvab.

Zahrál bych si ji dneska? Spíše jako kuriozitu nebo když chci zpátky do doby, kdy si při hraní člověk četl a představoval si scenérii sám. Není to pro všechny. Ale pokud tě zajímá, jak vypadala věcná, bez efektů postavená hra, která se nepoddělovala — tohle je případ.
