Action Fighter is a 1989 conversion of Sega's arcade game, brought to home formats including MS-DOS. The original was a vehicular action game in which you race and battle down a scrolling road, weaving through traffic and blasting enemies, with the signature twist that your motorcycle could transform into a well-armed car as you collected the right upgrades.

The home versions carried over that fast, arcade-flavored blend of driving and shooting, a genre staple of the late 80s when converting coin-op hits to home computers was big business. It leans on reflexes and pattern recognition rather than depth, and the PC port inevitably lacked the polish of the arcade cabinet. Today it is a modest but energetic slice of Sega's arcade heritage, best enjoyed in short bursts for its straightforward, high-speed action rather than any lasting complexity.
