Halloween

Halloween is a 1983 Atari 2600 game from Wizard Video Games, based on John Carpenter's slasher film and among the very first horror movie tie-ins in the medium. You control a babysitter moving through the rooms of a house, trying to shepherd children to safety while a knife-wielding killer stalks the halls, staying just out of view until he strikes.

For its time it was startlingly grim: the killer could cut the babysitter down in bloody fashion, and the game leaned hard into the shock value its film licence promised. Wizard Video released only a handful of titles before folding, which has made Halloween a sought-after rarity among Atari 2600 collectors. As a game it is crude and repetitive, but as an early attempt to bring genuine horror to the console it holds a real place in the medium's history.
