Maldita Escuela

Maldita Escuela is a 1990 ZX Spectrum game from the studio Megasoft. Its Spanish title, roughly damned school, indicates where it comes from: Spain, alongside Britain, was the country where the Spectrum survived longest and where a substantial domestic output grew up.

The 1990 date is characteristic of the Spanish scene. While eight-bit machines were giving way to sixteen-bit hardware elsewhere, Spectrum titles kept appearing on the Iberian peninsula, often as cheap cassette editions with Spanish text, which distinguished them from British stock on the same shelves.

A school setting was a popular subject among local authors, since it supplies an instantly readable backdrop and a ready excuse for comedy.
