Micro$oft Simulaattori is a small satirical curiosity from 1994, filed as a strategy game in its day and advertised, with a perfectly straight face, as "an extremely realistic simulation". The joke continues in the system requirements: all you supposedly need is an 8088 processor and an MDA monochrome display, hardware that was museum material by the mid-1990s.

It is a typical product of the Finnish home-computer scene: tiny joke programs passed around on BBS boards, this one clearly poking fun at Microsoft. The mssim.zip package reveals little about its makers beyond an ASCII group logo in the FILE_ID.DIZ file.

For two decades MS-DOS was the main gaming platform on PCs. Games launched from the command line and used sound cards like Sound Blaster or AdLib. DOS is the home of legends such as Doom, Prince of Persia and Commander Keen.
