Sapo Xulé — roughly "Stinky-Foot Frog" — was a genuine merchandising phenomenon in early-nineties Brazil. The character debuted in 1993 in KidNews, a free children's newspaper handed out in São Paulo schools, and Tec Toy turned him into a best-selling plush toy: a frog wearing sneakers that taught kids to tie their shoelaces, complete with an insole scented with a "realistic" foot odour. Comics and a cartoon followed — and, inevitably, video games.

Sapo Xulé vs. Os Invasores do Brejo (1995) is an official reskin of the excellent 1989 platformer Psycho Fox. Tec Toy, Sega's official partner in Brazil, replaced the fox with the frog, who now defends his native brejo — a Brazilian swamp — against invaders. The distinctive momentum-heavy physics, the eggs hiding power-ups and the secret shortcuts between levels all survived the makeover untouched.
