G-LOC: Air Battle is filed here with the year 1993 and the Sega Mega Drive as its platform, making this the home conversion. The original Sega AM2 cabinet is several years older and its main attraction was a moving cockpit that tilted with the player's manoeuvres — something no console beside a television could reproduce.

The acronym in the title is an aviation term for loss of consciousness under g-force, which captures the pace well. You chase enemy aircraft, lock on and fire missiles while moving along a predetermined path. This is not free flight but fast action with a reticle in the middle of the screen and a clock running down.

Converting it to a sixteen-bit console meant working around the very thing the cabinet existed for. The arcade hardware had dedicated sprite scaling to create the illusion of depth; the Mega Drive had no such feature, so the same effect had to be calculated by the processor, at the cost of frame rate and detail.

Even so it made sense on a console: short missions, an obvious goal, and the invitation to try again and do better. That is exactly what anyone expected from an arcade conversion in 1993.
