Om DND

Denne anmeldelse er endnu ikke oversat — vi viser originalen (English).

Want to play as a wizard slaying dragons, but also care that the game fits in seventy kilobytes? Then you've got exactly what you need here — and also something that'll frustrate you pretty quickly.

DND – screenshot 1

DND is a text-based dungeon crawler with no graphics that simulates tabletop gaming — you manage your character, weapon, spells, health, and stumble around in the dark where you see nothing but text lines and your own imagination. The game sends you into caves where you face monsters, collect treasure, and try to survive. There's no map, no dragon picture — just messages like "three goblins attack you" and you decide whether to fight or run.

Playing is straightforward — the cycle repeats: you enter a room, discover an enemy or treasure, pick an action from the menu, and wait for the result. Controls are simple, so you won't get lost. The problem is, the game behaves oddly sometimes — monsters ignored me, then killed me in two turns, hit chances aren't always clear, and weapon switching works like a frustration simulator. There's no balanced level design — if you've got the wrong combination of Health and Damage, your character looks broken before you can do much of anything.

DND – screenshot 2

In the eighties, it was interesting at least as a first attempt at computer Dungeons & Dragons. Today it looks like an AI exercise that decided to simulate tabletop without actually reading the rules properly. The game has atmosphere, sure — the "you have to imagine everything" style had charm — but playing quickly becomes repetitive shooting in the dark.

DND – screenshot 3

Give it a try if you want to feel what RPGs looked like on an early PC, or if minimalism without aesthetics appeals to you. You'll find it easily in a browser. But don't expect it to hold your attention long — after a while you'll understand why tabletop gaming never came from a Facebook monster, but the other way around.
