Eye of the Beholder, udviklet af Westwood Studios og udgivet af SSI i 1991, er en first-person, grid-baseret dungeon crawler sat i Forgotten Realms og bygget på Advanced Dungeons & Dragons-reglerne. Du samler et hold af eventyrere, der sendes under den store by Waterdeep for at undersøge en ondskab, der lurer i kloakerne, og derfra stiger du ned gennem en stadig farligere serie af underjordiske niveauer mod den ondskabsfulde kraft bag det hele.

Spillet følger det mønster, som Dungeon Master etablerede, bevæger sig kvadrat for kvadrat gennem klaustrofobiske korridorer, mens kampen udspiller sig i realtid ved kanten af dit syn.
