Clack, clink, and the ball shoots right where you didn't want it to. Pinball Dreams took an ordinary pinball machine and ported it to the computer so faithfully that you could almost feel the table vibrating under your fingertips. No story, no characters — just you, the ball, and two flippers.
You've got several different tables to choose from, each with its own theme, ramp layout, and bonuses. Your job is to keep the ball in play as long as possible, hit targets, light up combos, and rack up points. When the ball drains between your flippers, you lose a life, and the game gets intense.
The strength of Pinball Dreams lies in its precision. The ball physics are believable, the flippers respond instantly, and each table has its own hidden tricks and multiballs just waiting to be discovered. Gradually you learn how to guide the ball, when to hold a flipper and when to let it roll — and your score climbs.
What made the game so addictive was that simple goal: beat your own high score. You fire it up for "just one ball" and suddenly you've got fifty behind you, because this one shot could be the one. It's pure arcade through and through, all skill and reflexes.
Behind the game stands the Swedish studio Digital Illusions, which later grew into a major name in the gaming industry. Pinball Dreams was their breakthrough and proved that computer pinball could be just as addictive as the real thing.
