Max Blackjack

Blackjack in the nineties meant two things: either you thought 'why would I play cards with a machine when I'm at a computer,' or you thought 'why not.' Max Blackjack picked the second path and did simply what it should — simulator of poker with a computer, without frills.

It's classic card dealing where you have one single duty: get to twenty-one without going over it. Computer deals, you decide — take another card or stand? Rules are as they've been for two hundred years. No drama, no scenarios, just you, computer and a deck of cards. Simplicity is the aim, not a mistake.

Graphics is exactly what you'd expect from 1989 — green table on display, numbers and symbols in narrow typeface that looks at old TV. Controls? Arrows and Enter. Nothing more, nothing less. Computer plays understandably, no tricks — has its cards, has its logic, and when you lose, I know why. No funny business or hiding cards. Respect for that.

This game wasn't written to wow you. It's a practice field, at least for people who wanted to try rules without money. All those later released 'luxury' versions of blackjack with animation and gimmicks took that idea without improving it. To today's gambler obviously nothing rings a bell — better card simulators have existed for decades. But in the context of the eighties? Simply it works.

Worth playing in a browser only when you want to remember what remarkable simplicity was like and you wondered that you could have fun at a PC without graphical effects. Today just memory has faded.
