R.B.I. Baseball '95

R.B.I. Baseball '95 belongs to the long-running baseball series launched in 1987 by Tengen's American arm as a localised version of Namco's Japanese Family Stadium line. The initials stand for runs batted in. The series' first era ended precisely with 1995 and the name returned only in 2014 as a competitor to MLB: The Show; that second run lasted until 2021.

The version you will find here has one important peculiarity: it is a prototype. The file is marked as an unfinished development build for the Mega Drive — a version that was never sold in this form. That means you may encounter unfinished screens, missing content, wrong values or bugs that would not exist in a finished game.

That makes it a different proposition from a normal release. Prototypes are interesting to people who follow how development proceeded — you can find material that never made the final version and compare what changed along the way. As an ordinary baseball game it is hard to recommend, because you do not know what you will run into.

The R.B.I. line itself was always more arcade-minded than its competition. Rules are simplified, the pace is fast, and the game does not try to simulate statistics down to the last decimal. That made it a good couch title for two players.
