Alien Syndrome is the PC-era version of Sega's arcade run-and-gun, listed here in a 1989 release. The core is a race against the clock: you move through sprawling, maze-like space stations infested with aliens, hunting down and freeing trapped comrades before a countdown timer expires and the level self-destructs. Each stage caps off with a large boss creature guarding the exit.

The appeal lay in that mix of exploration and shooting under pressure, with two-player cooperative action in its original arcade form and a rogues' gallery of grotesque, oversized bosses. It's very much a product of the mid-80s arcade sensibility, direct, arcade-tough and built around a simple but tense loop. Home conversions of this era varied in quality, but the design itself holds up as a solid example of the top-down rescue shooter that Sega helped popularize.
