Ever wonder if a logic puzzle can be combined with a race against time? Wreckin Crew proves it from the very first level, where instead of just sliding blocks around, you really have to shake things up.

It's a puzzle game where you smash colored blocks and must remove them all. The sound of falling bricks, white background, and simple colors — exactly what a 386-class computer could handle. You've got a grid on screen, your cursor (or rather a tiny icon) moves across the fields, and you clear out the blocks waiting for you. It's all against the clock. Regardless of who exactly the creator was, this title reeks of an arcade attempt at something different.

Playing is straightforward — you click or drag, scatter blocks, rack up points. The smarter you plan, the less time you need. Some levels are linear, others require a bit of tactics. But the pace feels sluggish — movements aren't snappy, animation is slow, and the precision needed to click tiny squares on an old monitor was frustrating. After a while you feel like you're completing a chore, not actually having fun.

Wreckin Crew was one of those attempts to mix casual logic with arcade time pressure. It didn't quite work out — the game can be engaging, but without the bite of arcade games or the elegance of better puzzle titles. Today it remains mostly as a curiosity from the nineties, when DOS corners served up everything imaginable.

If you dig old puzzle games without flash that annoy you a bit while keeping you glued to the screen, go ahead and download it. It's useful mediocrity — you'll grab the game, play it for twenty minutes, and understand why you don't pray to its name these days.
