SpongeBob SquarePants: Operation Krabby Patty

SpongeBob SquarePants: Operation Krabby Patty reached the PC in 2001 through THQ. The television series behind it had been running since the end of the nineties and was climbing steadily in 2001, and licensed games of that period followed a show popularity almost immediately.

THQ built a large part of its catalogue on children and family licences. The model was straightforward: acquire the rights to a programme children were already watching and get a game out before the interest cooled. Quality across such output varied widely, because the deciding factor was the release date rather than the scope of the design.

The record lists a third-person view and single-player only. For a 2001 licence that generally meant three-dimensional levels with simple objectives, an obliging camera and a difficulty curve tuned so a younger player could finish without adult help.

Nothing about the actual content is documented here, neither the level structure nor character counts nor any mini-games. What is recorded is the publisher, the year, the platform, the series placement, and the fact that the game appeared while the show was still building the audience it later kept.

On OldGame.cz this title comes with its 2001 date, the THQ credit and screenshots, though it cannot be played on the page itself.
