Microhobby was the leading Spanish magazine devoted to the ZX Spectrum, and its role reached well beyond that of an ordinary newsstand title. Alongside reviews and guides it published program listings and its own games, which readers typed in or loaded from covertapes. Superman was a popular subject on eight-bit machines because the character's abilities translate into obvious mechanics: flight, strength, speed. Either way, no explanation of the character was needed, which saved memory that could go into the game itself.

Programmers had learned to work around the colour-cell restriction, animation had improved, and some releases used the extra memory of the 128 kilobyte model. Magazine-driven software often stayed simpler than commercial releases, because it had to be produced quickly and kept short enough to distribute.
