Few licenses have stretched across as many genres as Star Wars. Since 1982 the saga has produced arcade shooters, space combat simulators, role-playing epics, real-time strategy, kart racers, first-person shooters and even a chess game with animated captures. This page collects 92 retro Star Wars games from our archive — the ones you can launch straight away are listed first, the rest are catalogue entries with full details and screenshots.
From the Atari 2600 to the Death Star Trench
The story starts before most people think it does. Parker Brothers released The Empire Strikes Back for the Atari 2600 in 1982 — a simple but tense duel between your snowspeeder and an endless column of AT-AT walkers. A year later Atari's vector-graphics Star Wars arcade cabinet let players fly the Death Star trench run with digitized movie voices, and it became one of the most beloved arcade machines of its era. On this site you can also try Jedi Arena, the 1983 Atari 2600 oddity that turned lightsaber training remotes into a two-player duel.
The LucasArts Golden Age
The nineties belonged to LucasArts. X-Wing (1993) proved a licensed game could be a serious flight simulator, and TIE Fighter (1994) went further by putting you on the Imperial side — many players still call it the best space combat sim ever made. Dark Forces (1995) answered Doom with Kyle Katarn and actual mission objectives, then grew into the Jedi Knight series and its unmatched lightsaber duels. The era closed with Episode I: Racer (1999), the podracing game that was faster than the film it came from, and Galactic Battlegrounds (2001), which rebuilt Age of Empires II in a galaxy far, far away. Consoles were not left out: the punishingly difficult Super Star Wars trilogy (1992–1994) on the SNES is still the definitive 16-bit take on the films. In 2003 BioWare's Knights of the Old Republic gave the license its finest story — four thousand years before the films, with one of gaming's great plot twists.
Play Star Wars Games in Your Browser
Everything marked as playable below runs directly in your browser through an emulator — no download, no installation, no account. Just click a title, give it a few seconds to load and grab the keyboard. We are adding browser versions of more games from the list all the time, so if your favourite is still a catalogue entry, check back later. And if you finish the trench run without losing a shield, Obi-Wan would be proud: the Force is clearly with you.
