Orcworld is a small Finnish role-playing game for DOS. According to its original blurb it was made under the Eetusoft label by Risto Seppänen; the player picks one of two different characters, and progress can be saved — hardly a given in tiny hobby games of the era. The authors confidently promised a "really good game" and listed a 386, 4 MB of RAM, VGA and 1 MB of hard-disk space as the requirements.

Miniature RPGs like this were produced by the dozen on the Finnish home-computer scene of the 1990s, passed around for free on BBSes and floppy disks, and international retro archives have mostly missed them entirely. Orcworld is today more a period document of that scene than an epic adventure — which is precisely its charm.

For two decades MS-DOS was the main gaming platform on PCs. Games launched from the command line and used sound cards like Sound Blaster or AdLib. DOS is the home of legends such as Doom, Prince of Persia and Commander Keen.
