Pool is not a game for people who just want to have fun. It's suicide in slow motion. And that's exactly why Arcade Pool deserves your attention — this 1994 simulation doesn't treat the thing as a fun toy, but as a sport where angle, friction, and psychology all count.

It's classic pool — nine-ball or eight-ball on MS-DOS. You stand behind the table, set up your cue angle, calculate power and direction. The game shows you the trajectory, but interpreting the rest is up to you. The computer opponent plays well, not flawlessly, but if you're banking on first impressions, it'll clean you out. The rules are hard, no do-overs, no insurance — if you break them, you lose your turn.

The controls are simple: aim the cue with mouse or keyboard, pick your power, shoot. The graphics are typical for a DOS pool game — green table you can buy, transparent numbered balls. Nothing fancy, but readable and functional. The sound of balls clicking and cracking on impact tells you what's happening — enough so you can hear the situation play out. It plays like a bar machine, just without the beer and smoke.

Arcade Pool doesn't pretend to be a hit. You won't sink sixty hours into it. But in the nineties, when pool on your PC wasn't a common thing, it offered something that worked — a fair simulation without cheating, without artificially inflated difficulty. The computer won't beat you with a foul or a rule you don't know. It'll lose fair and square.

Today people expect graphics from the third millennium. You won't find that here. But when you need to rack your brain over a shot you miscalculated, or you just want to play for a bit with the computer at something without screaming and glitches — it's a solid thing. It's not great-old, but it's honest.
