Minimalist sound design and dingy graphics await you when you fire up LA SERPIENTE. A game with no credited genre or developer shrouds itself in anonymity, but you can understand why — it's a crumpled mashup that nobody would want to take credit for today.

It's essentially a top-down shooter where you pilot a flying snake or something vaguely snake-adjacent, zipping around the screen blasting enemies. The environment is monochromatic, simple, with no real production values or narrative to speak of. The name evokes danger, but the end result feels more tedious than anything.

The controls don't differ from hundreds of '90s games — one thumb for movement, the other for firing. The logic isn't the problem; it's how it feels under your fingers. Graphics from 2000 look like they could've been from 1992. They lack punch, everything's flat and the gameplay never really picks up pace. After five minutes, you know exactly what the next forty minutes hold — same background, same shortcomings, same bland music droning away, if there's any at all.
