Tungkol sa laro

Hindi pa naisasalin ang review na ito — ipinapakita ang orihinal (English).

A game I played through the nineties like everyone else who had a computer and internet with FTP servers. Blockage is a simple yet merciless adventure with minimal graphics and maximum frustration.

Blockage – screenshot 1

You move across a text map where rooms and their connections are defined by chains of pixels. The goal is to break through a series of obstacles — both physical and logical. Find a key, open a door, solve a simple puzzle, move on. Through text and a few icons, the game describes a world made up of static elements and your will to overcome them.

Playing is slow and click-based. You control your character with mouse or keyboard, but the core of it is that you stand and wait to see what happens. The puzzles aren't deep — they're mainly time locks. You pick up item A, carry it to location B, and then C happens. But the game shows no mercy in punishing wrong moves — you end up in a trap with no way out, and you have to restart. No warning texts, no going back. Just the chilling "Game Over".

Blockage came into the world as a thoroughly amateur project — no passwords, no guide, no manual. That's precisely what made it interesting when I first played it. It was a "try-fail-retry" game that built patience and that gnawing sense of victory. Today it seems primitive beyond recognition. It doesn't even build atmosphere — it's just a straightforward technical contest with the computer.

Playing it today means stepping into a digital labyrinth without a map. There are no words to reassure you. There's no sound to warn you. Just a silent world, your brain, and old, strange logic that governs everything. If you want to remember how tough adventures were when you actually had to concentrate — Blockage is the right place.
