Hard Nova

While others were enjoying colorful point-and-click adventures in 1990, Hard Nova reminds you that some things matter more than graphics. I'd say way too much more.

There's no graphical battle—just numbers and messages like "Your unit is defeated." Prep time for combat lasts longer than the actual clash. If you crave interactivity and want to actually see your soldiers firing, you'll be frustrated.

Hard Nova is a game for a very specific breed of player—those for whom games are puzzles and systems first, experience second. Its release was bold for its time. Today it seems archaic even by those standards. Without a tutorial, you get lost in the rules. Playing feels tedious and often boring.

Still, Hard Nova has its charm—if you're patient enough. The game offers genuine strategic freedom and depth that many 90s titles only promised through looks. Here you actually have to think.
