Reruns Again [v1.3]

When I first looked at the Reruns Again screen, I thought it would be another one of those forgotten experiments from the early nineties. I believe I was wrong — just not quite in the right direction.

Reruns Again is a logic game where you move around a grid and collect items in a specific order. The goal is simple, but increasingly complex: on each level you must traverse all tiles in the exact sequence, as if following a scenario that must not be broken. The game clearly played on human brain weakness — the ability to remember and repeat.

It's played with the keyboard, movement around the grid is straightforward. Graphics are spartan — white lines on a black background, and that's it. Sounds: none, or at least that's what I remember. But that's not a flaw, it's a matter of the era. The complexity lies in your head, not on the monitor. When you grasp the logic of one level, the next one comes along and turns it completely on its head. The thrill of discovery alternates with frustration, and that's exactly what the game hooks you with.

Reruns Again isn't a name that comes up in debates about classics. Not because it's bad, but because it got lost in the flood of shareware games that were popping up from every crack back then. It was a game for people who liked to think, while others were figuring out how to get Duke Nukem past the boss. For its time, it had a solid ace — pure thinking without gimmicks.

Playing it today means going back to what was at the heart of logic games. It's not pretty, but it's pure. If Sokoban suited you in your teenage years or you remember games that left you staring at the screen and pondering, this is yours. Everything else here will be unnecessary.
