Kirby can't talk, so he vacuums. He vacuums chickenpox, vacuums enemies, vacuums abilities — and in Dream Land 2, he vacuums animals that become his accessories. It's a trick that works.

It's a classic Game Boy platformer from the mid-nineties, where Kirby travels through a couple of worlds and collects power-ups like Fast Food Kings or maybe a flying fish key. The goal is simple: reach the end of each level and beat the bosses. The game has three possible endings depending on how many secret items you grab — that was genuine encouragement to explore in the nineties, not mandatory 100% collection.

The mechanics are elegant. Kirby vacuums an enemy or animal, which he can then spit out as a projectile, or he keeps its ability and transforms. Flying Kirby, Kirby with a hammer, Kirby as an ice ball — each change opens new paths. You can't jump to certain places until you have the right animal; the game subtly guides you. It's logical and doesn't annoy anyone — the puzzles aren't frustrating, just curious.

On the Game Boy it still looks nice twenty-four years later — Kirby moves freshly, animations are short and punchy, the music stays in your head. You knew what you could do at any moment, the game didn't hassle you with unknown mechanics. That's the difference compared to some platforms back then.

Today it suits anyone who wants a platformer without stress, where you press a button and know exactly what happens. It's not difficult, it's not long — it's simply pleasant, like biting into fresh bread. You can play it in a browser without unnecessary delays.
