Auf dem Weg nach Europa

Let me tell you something — this is the first game I simply couldn't find anywhere to play. I searched the internet, dug through archives, and came up empty. Auf dem Weg nach Europa from 1990 has simply vanished. It's as if it was born and disappeared into the mist of computer museum cabinets. But you know what? Even that's rare on the retro scene.

If I've deduced correctly — German title, the era it was made — this would be an educational title definitely aimed at individual German-speaking schools. A journey through Europe as the theme. Those early days of personal computers were full of Learning by Doing experiments: take a map, take a bus or train, take some money, and travel across the continent. Collect knowledge, complete tasks, learn about countries, cities, distances.

Without access to the original, I can only guess, and that's not the way a reviewer should work. What knowledge I have tells me these things usually ran on Point and Click principles, sometimes retro text adventures. The goal was educational — not a console attraction. Colors, sound limited to PC speaker beeps, graphics like from a newspaper article. The fun was in discovery and solving, not adrenaline rushes.

That the game is unavailable today speaks for itself. Educational titles from the nineties are the worst documented and easiest to forget. Especially when it comes to something released in limited quantities in Germany or nearby. Even archival stations don't have it.

Respect for the attempt. But I can't tell you much more than that today.
