Asterix and the Magic Cauldron was published by Melbourne House in 1986, an action adventure based on the comic that few people here knew at the time, even though Asterix himself was one of the best established brands in Europe. Getafix's cauldron has broken into seven pieces and they have scattered across occupied Gaul. Your job is to find them and bring them back.

The most interesting rule concerns Obelix. He does not simply tag along; he follows you only while you are carrying food. So you haul provisions around not for yourself but to keep a companion, and his presence has to be earned continuously. It is a surprisingly elegant translation of a joke from the comic into a game mechanic, and it is the one thing about this game that more than a handful of people still remember.
The fighting is fast and unforgiving. You have a straight punch, a kick and an uppercut, legionaries turn up often, and an exchange lasts seconds: either you put them down or they put you down. The rest of the time you walk a large map looking for things, which without notes on paper gets tiresome, because there are few landmarks to steer by.
Contemporary critics were not enthusiastic, and the complaint was always the same: the comic-book atmosphere lands, the playing behind it does not. Attached to that is something no game would survive today. In some releases the final piece of the cauldron sits hidden behind the graphics of a triumphal arch and cannot be picked up, so the game simply cannot be completed. Whether that puts you off is your call, but it is only fair to know in advance.
