It's 1987, it's on Commodore 64, and someone at Encore had an idea that didn't quite fit anywhere.

Batty is a top-down action game where you navigate a bat through increasingly cramped mazes while avoiding collisions and collecting whatever the game wants you to collect—the specifics blur together after a few minutes. The premise is simple: move, don't hit walls, progress. The difficulty curve is less a curve and more a cliff edge. You start in spaces roomy enough to breathe, then the maze tightens like a fist, and suddenly you're threading pixels through gaps that leave no margin for error. It's punishment masquerading as challenge.

The control is direct but sluggish, which on a C64 isn't unusual but here feels intentional—like the bat has weight, consequence, something that matters. That works against you. When you need to pivot quickly in a narrow passage, the slight delay between input and response becomes your enemy.
