À propos de Total Eclipse

Ce test n’est pas encore traduit — nous affichons la version originale (English).

When you fire up Total Eclipse, a Sound Blaster greeting hits you with what can only be described as a sci-fi flutter — the kind of sound that would announce the arrival of extraterrestrials. Then you know this won't be a game about strolling through the park.

Total Eclipse – screenshot 1

This is a puzzle and action platformer from the late eighties, when nobody really knew what a computer was supposed to do anyway. You play as a character who wanders through scenes packed with geometric shapes, obstacles, and enemies that look like they were drawn by someone under the influence of serious sleepless nights. The goal is straightforward: get through the level, grab what you can, and don't take too many hits.

The controls are tight, but stubborn — that's where eight-bit reflexes meet forty-bit ambitions. Your character moves on a grid, fires in eight directions, and you constantly have to calculate where danger's coming from next. The graphics are pure VGA: sharp lines, contrasting colors, and it'll slow down a bit when there are several enemies on screen, but at least you know what you're looking at. There are no hints, no hidden tricks — everything's on the table, just like in an era when computers couldn't lie.

This game is tough going. Not impossible, but hard — without any nonsense like infinite lives or a gentle difficulty curve. When you die, you know why. When you make it through, you feel it. That's exactly what separates this from a lot of modern games trying to be difficult — those do it intentionally, this one was just the nature of the times.

Not many people remember it these days. It wasn't a big deal, wasn't flashy, wasn't famous. But that pure, self-contained logic — that it simply works and doesn't mess with you — that's why it's worth firing up in an emulator even now. Don't expect miracles, but you can expect an honest, clever platformer with no apologies.
