Udoiana Raunes 3 - In Search for Indiana Jones 4

The third installment of Udoiana Raunes is this weird bastard of a game that tries to be an adventure game with action elements, but never quite nails either. It clones the Indiana Jones formula — mysterious artifact, temple exploration, sprinkles of gunfighting — except everything feels like someone realized the game was being made and shipped it half-baked.

You control a little character moving around an isometric map in classic MS-DOS style. The goal is to visit various locations, collect items, and solve puzzles that basically boil down to grabbing the right key and opening the right door. You shoot at enemies occasionally, but the combat is lifeless — the enemy just stands there, you pop off a shot, and they drop. Zero AI, zero dynamics. The graphics are flat, animations are stiff, the palette is as dry as week-old bread. Sound works if you've got a soundcard from the early nineties, otherwise it's silence.

But there's a paradoxical charm to it all. The game doesn't reach for the stars of big productions — it doesn't pretend to. It's a humble little world where everything happens a bit clumsily and yet genuinely. When you solve a puzzle by clicking the right object, it's not elegant, but those few minutes of trial and error searching for the right combination read like authentic retro struggle.

Today it's just not fun anymore. The game ages poorly — slowness without purpose, graphics without magic, mechanics without punch. It's neither so bad it's interesting as a curiosity, nor good enough to deserve your time. It just exists as a hazy record from when indie creators did what they could with what they had.

If you want to travel back to a time when figuring out the right solution meant twenty minutes of trial and error, and that sounds like nostalgia to you, give it a spin. Everyone else can skip it.
