Tour guides should be careful here — I managed to get into Kinmen with a map that looked like it was sketched in pencil on a bus. This is a Chinese strategy game from 1995 that almost nobody in Europe knows about, and that's actually a shame. It's a mix of simulation and tactics set against the backdrop of the Kinmen dispute, an island lying between Taiwan and China and thus the perfect target for any military strategy designer.

The title works more as a bold subtitle — it's really a game about decision-making and management. You take care of the economy, production, infrastructure, and at the same time deal with military threats and occupation troubles. It's not real-time combat action, more like an office board game transported to a computer, where each round means deciding on budget, construction, and diplomacy. The theme is local and politically tense — a setting of chaos and building that I haven't seen much in MS-DOS before.

The interface looks like tables and menus stacked on top of each other without elegance, but with purpose. You click, you choose, you enter numbers. The game doesn't obsess over graphics or animations — that wasn't even common DOS philosophy in '95. Instead it pushes information: how much money you have, what's being built, where the army goes, who's resisting. The pace is yours — nothing's forcing you. There's a boring learning period at first, but then it becomes a strange, dark puzzle. It's not pleasant clicking on targets like in Age of Empires, it's more like accounting with escalating tension.

The game exists based on a very specific story — the strategy unfolds from a real situation that the Chinese developer took and processed as a scenario. This makes its world more concrete, though less "universal" than Western RTS games. It's a corner that became a computer simulator, and that's where its strange appeal lies, and also its difficulty for Western players.

Today it's clearly a rarity and a challenge — a game with no accessible English manual, no tutorial, no sentiment. If you're willing to penetrate MS-DOS through an Asian perspective on tactics and economics, this is an authentic encounter with a distant corner of the gaming industry. It's not a classic you'd play for fun, but an experience that will teach you how diverse the cutting edge of computer games was.
