Crackpots is a 1983 Atari 2600 game from Activision, one of the many inventive single-screen titles the company produced during the console's golden years. You play a character perched at the top of an apartment building, and your task is to drop flowerpots down onto swarms of bugs crawling up the walls before they reach and overrun your apartment.

It's a simple, timing-based arcade concept typical of Activision's 2600 output, where a single clever mechanic is stretched into an escalating test of reflexes as the insects climb faster and in greater numbers. Like the best of the era's cartridges, its charm lies in immediate, easy-to-grasp play backed by a steadily rising difficulty curve. Crackpots isn't among the most famous Activision classics, but it's a characterful example of the imaginative, quirky game ideas that flourished on the Atari 2600 in the early 1980s.
