Ski Park Manager is a 2002 construction and management strategy by the French studio Lankhor. Its subject is unique within the genre: instead of an amusement park or a hospital, the player builds and operates a winter ski resort — from pistes and lifts to hotels, rental shops and evening entertainment for guests.
The turn of the millennium favoured management games of every kind. The success of the big park-building series opened the door to specialized themes, and European studios tried them one after another. Mountains bring their own rules to the genre: seasonality, weather and the snow the whole business literally stands on give the economy a rhythm that theme-park builders never knew.
The player works out piste routing across the terrain, lift capacity, ski-pass pricing and the satisfaction of visitors of varying skiing ability. The top-down view of a snowy valley shows clearly how the resort grows — and where the queues form that reliably infuriate guests.
For Lankhor, a studio with history reaching back to the eighties, this was one of the final projects before it closed down. That makes Ski Park Manager an interesting document: the closing chapter of one of the traditional names of French development.
Management games have one quiet advantage: they age more slowly than action titles, because their core is numbers and decision-making rather than graphical effects. Running a virtual resort entertains just as it did twenty years ago — and anyone who has ever queued for a real ski lift will appreciate the power to build the cable car exactly where it belongs.
For this wintry strategy OldGame.cz offers the release year, the studio's name and a gallery of snowbound screens.
