The French games scene held a strong position on the Atari ST, and Lankhor was one of its best-known names. The studio built its reputation on games with their own ideas rather than imitations of foreign templates, and Outzone from 1991 belongs to its later output, by which point the sixteen-bit era was at its height.

The game uses an overhead view. For an action game that determines a great deal: the player sees in every direction, can move freely across the plane, and the design can lean on enclosed spaces and navigation rather than simply pushing rightward. The Atari ST offered enough memory for larger maps and drew flat areas competently, though it trailed the Amiga in colour count and in hardware support for moving objects.
By 1991 the Atari ST was still selling reasonably in continental Europe, but in Britain and elsewhere competing machines had pulled ahead in games. French publishers kept going regardless, and their titles from this window form a distinct chapter that remains little known outside France.
You will not find a detailed account of the levels or weapon systems here, because verified material for that does not exist. On OldGame.cz the title is kept as a profile with release and developer data plus screenshots showing how the game actually looked. An interesting record mainly for anyone tracing Lankhor or French Atari ST production.

The name deserves a caution as well. A Japanese arcade shooter with an almost identical title appeared in the same period and has nothing to do with this game. The two are routinely confused when searching, so it pays to check the platform and publisher.
