You're in an open field. You see something white there. It's nothing more than brief instructions, but you already know you're about to embark on something that will take hours. Zork I from 1980 isn't a game you play — it's a game you read. A text-based alphabet full of mysteries, where your only tool is typing English commands and imagination.
Simply put: you're an underground exploration team in the hands of the player. The goal? Find and collect three artifacts across the Great Underground Empire. You solve it by entering commands like "go north," "take golden statue," "open door." The game responds with text, describing what you see, what you hear — sometimes through witty twists, sometimes through deadly traps. It's not a riddle where "the right word means survival," but rather exploration, logic, and mental resilience against absurd humor.
You play it slowly. You stand in one place, type, wait. There's no graphics to peek through mistakes or click your way forward. You have to imagine everything while being careful — when a command fails, you won't know if it's your typing or the game's design. There are dozens of deadly traps.
